The gentlemen operating this heavy equipment worked long and hard to strip and level this entire track and field in less than 7 days!

Tons of sod and dirt had to be removed and
relocated before the precision of grading occurs.
Above, West Coast Material does some serious hauling.

A special grade of gravel is carefully laid for a foundation well before the finished surface can come into the picture.

Ken Macy, Project Manager for R. F. Carroll, Inc.
and Jim Peris, owner of Sunshine Express discuss some of the finer points and options.

These fine teams are all working extremely hard to bring this wonderful project to pass.  Long hours and very hot days are the norm for these dedicated folks.

Constant grading and rolling has to take place in order for the final application of the turf to flawlessly fit.  Sometimes it is necessary to combine sand along with the crushed rock to achieve the proper texture essential for that 'just right' soil density. There is a great deal underground that does not meet the eye when a professional field is properly fitted and finished.  Pictured below are just a few of the basics.

This drain is an Aco Trench Drain System. It is used in the "D Zone" which is where the track and "Jump" areas intersect.  Aco drains are used to accommodate water run off between the high jump/pole vault areas and the track where there is a synthetic surface rather than turf. It assures no water will be standing on any of these surfaces which can be a safety issue for athletes.

Crew finishes topping off the Aco Trench Drain. More than once members from different crews joined forces to see that a particular task was completed as scheduled.  Many hands make light work.  There was unselfish team work demonstrated time and again on this project.
